About the bar

Almost 200 years ago in a building on Birzhevoi Pereulok the famous Elissev merchant family built storehouses for wine, which they then poured it into bottles and shipped throughout Russia and the world.

The Eliseevs were among the largest European merchants, and the wine that they poured ended up in London, Bordeaux, Oporto, and New York. Each day the company poured up to 15,000 bottles of wine, and their reserves numbered no less than 100,000 crates. Thanks to the Eliseevs Russia was introduced to famous champagnes such as Veuve Clicquot and Moet. Without the Eliseevs it’s possible Pushkin would never have written his lines:

Veuve Clicquot or Moet
Sacred wine
In a freezing bottle for a poet
Was put on the table that very moment

In autumn 2008, with the opening of the Eliseev Wine Bar, this famed wine cellar once again gathers some of the world’s finest wines and spirits.

The shelves have dusty wine bottles stacked up to the ceiling. The red-brick walls and vaulted ceilings are softly lit by the ingenuity of modern design lighting. Everything has been carefully considered to create the perfect atmosphere, and you will want to spend hours here with friends enjoying fine wines and drinks.

A wide assortment of fine appetizers is available, while the wine list includes some rare gems. These include the legendary Italian red wines Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC Toscana, and Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino di Montefalco Collepiano DOCG, as well as one of the most expensive Spanish wines, Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Valbuena 5. There is also the aromatic French wine, Pouilly Fume Silex Didier Dagueneau AOC, and the Austrian Gruner Weltliner Alte Reben Brundlemeyer.

Guests who like to smoke will be pleasantly surprised by our cigar list.
